Title I Teacher

Santiago Ramón y Cajal once said, “Every man can, if he so desires, become the sculptor of his own brain.” This is my teaching philosophy. My students will learn as I create pleasurable learning opportunities which empower them to have the confidence to become lifelong learners.

My name is Michelle Reid and I graduated from Troy University with a Master’s degree in K-6 and Special Education in 2004. August 2013, I graduated from the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) with an Ed.S. in Elementary Education. During the 2011-2012 academic school year, I was the Jacksonville State University Teacher Hall of Fame Nominee for Rocky Ridge Elementary School.

My career in the public education setting began in Leeds, Alabama in 2004. I worked as a Special Education teacher, and I also served as the instructional support team leader on the Building Base Student Support Team (“BBSST”). As a member of this team, I began to ask the following question: “What fosters academic growth?” As a result, I began to seek answers to my questions through professional book studies and volunteer work. Consequently, I seek to understand each individual child’s learning style, personality and home environment and create learning environments where instruction is tailored to meet individual student needs. Currently, I am the Title I teacher at Rocky Ridge Elementary school where I teach reading and math to grades K-5. Over the course of six years, I have been afforded the opportunity to work with incredible teachers and administrators who share ideas and resources and collaborate with one another. I work in close collaboration with a variety of Hoover City School’s administrators. As a result, I have grown both personally and professional.
