Before coming to Rocky Ridge, I worked at a preschool in Boone, North Carolina and in Marion, North Carolina.  I also worked as a Summer Camp counselor  in Asheville, NC for an entire summer living in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.  After my camp experience in Asheville, I started working at a YMCA Summer Camp in my local hometown in Marion, NC, and then became the assistant camp director for a summer.

I student taught at Hardin Park School in Boone, NC in 4th grade and then after graduation, I moved back to Alabama to be with my family.  I immediately got a job here at Rocky Ridge Elementary School in December of 2005 as a 5th grade teacher.  I am currently still teaching 5th grade and absolutely love it!

While at RRES, I have served on numerous committees.  I am currently an AMSTI Trainer for Hoover City Schools, a science Leadership Committee Member, and on the yearbook committee.

I love SCIENCE and have attended numerous professional development opportunities across the Nation.  My most favorite was going to New York City and spending an entire week learning science and math at the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy.  I was also awarded a NASA Fellowship where I worked with educators and professionals from across the world learning engineering and science practices.  Through the fellowship, I earned a STEM certificate from Teachers College at Columbia University.

I received a scholarship to attend Honeywell Eudcators Space Academy in the Summer of 2010.  I also got the opportunity to spend at week at NASA Marshall Space and Flight Center a few summers ago doing Water Filtration Research through NASA Explorer Schools.

Through the year, I mentor Freshman students from UAB as part of the UABTEACH program.  This program focuses on increasing secondary science and math certified teachers along with their engineering, math, or other science degree.

I'm a fifth grade teacherat Rocky Ridge elementary. My hobbies include reading and doing DIY projects. I love anything to do with Space/Rocketry/ NASA.  I also love meteorology!!!
