Bio

My name is Ellen Anson and I have been a special education teacher for what seems like all my life (a long time!!).  I have always taught students in a self-contained setting and it is more of a vocation for me than a job.  I love thinking of ways to help my students access their environment and am always excited when I discover new ways to use technology in the classroom.  This is my 4th year at Rocky Ridge Elementary.  In 2012-2013, I was selected as Rocky Ridge's Teacher of the Year, Elementary Teacher of the Year for Hoover City Schools, and was one of the 4 finalists for the Alabama Teacher of the Year.

My husband, John, and I moved to Hoover from Huntsville in 2008.  We have three adult children - twins Patrick and Tim, and a daughter, Lauren.  Lauren has followed in my footsteps and also teaches students in a self contained setting for Mountain Brook City Schools

Quilting is my other passion and I have had quilts features in national quilting magazines and national shows. I even had one quilt that was displayed in our sister city, Hitachi, Japan!  I have made quilts that feature storybook characters that hang in my classroom.
